Photo Album of the real Civil War Photos

The Civil War Members sitting around in front of a tent. You can see that the opening of the tent is made out of American Flags.

Civil War members cleaning up a big mess. Some are doing different jobs to help clean up, one person is cleaning up a roof.

This is a man that is cooking stew for the soldiers. This man also looks like hes coming out from a cloud of dust.

Some Civil War Soldiers gathering around making a plan or discussing some

Civil War Members all sitting down like the've been capured or something.

How they got there food
Everything was grown, planted, or cooked. If they found pigs they could cut it up and get breakfast. If they found frogs they could cut out the guts and eat it.It was probobaly very hard to find food. They hunted animals and caught fish, catched rabbits, and shot deer. My prediction is that maybe they separated in groups, and some would hunt, some would fish, and some could pick berries or nuts. I've never hunted before, but I think It could be very scary. If you look at this picture you can see some men sitting in old chairs and talking. Maybe at dinner they would be hunting or sitting around a camp fire eating fish or rabbit, maybe even frog guts. I've never eaten frog guts, but I've seen someone eat it on Survivor Man. I sure am really glad that we don't live and eat some of this stuff now.By: Bethany Orthman

About the Civil War Back Then

The Civil War food supplied to the soldiers of both sides was plain and monotonous.Becuase the ration had to be transported long distances, the Commissary Departments replied on foods that could be preserved, so the primary ingredients available to soldiers were salted meat and canned goods. The salt pork that was given to the soldiers during the war was stinky kind of blue extra salty meat, with hair, skin, dirt, and other junk left on it. It was, however there main supply of protein. That counts of something right? Civil War members were also given rice, potatoes, onions, molasses, and other non-perishable or slow perish items.

How the Civil War members find there food
The Civil War members found there food by hunting and traveling to get it. They needed food for everyone so when one went out he/she would have to get more then enough food for himself, but for his whole family. To think how hard it was for them. They had to go and find there food, when we can just drive to Krogers or the Grocery store. You can find some pictures of the Civil war members finding food at www.sonofthesouth.net. Just click pictures above in the blue highlight to see those pictures.

The food that the "Soldiers" ate
The Civil War soldiers ate almost the same thing. They ate things like hard stack, beans, bacon, side meat, salt pork, dried beef, drank coffee, wild greens, nuts, wild onions, wild garlic, eggs, fish, and fowl. It is very interesting to read abut all the things they ate. They don't eat alot of things that we eat now. I found this information at wikianswers.com. When you get to the website, you need to click Home, when you get there you can type in "What type of food did they eat in the Civil War?"
You can ask any question, and I promise you will get an answer.
Wiki Answers is great for historical questions also.
